Lawrence “Larry” Ahlemann

Lawrence “Larry” Ahlemann
(Burtonwood HS, England)
(1942 – August 5, 2018)
OSB member since 1998

Larry died peacefully at home in Merrill Gardens in Santa Maria on August 5, 2018, following a valiant battle with Parkinson's Disease. He is survived by his wife, Vicki Harrell Ahlemann; sister, Damaris Bromley; and stepmother, Pauline Ahlemann.

During his life, Larry touched many lives with his desire to help, mentor, and advise, and with his wit, imagination, energy, humor, strength, thoughtfulness, and gentleness. He was a loving husband and exciting companion.

Larry was a WWII history student and could identify airplanes from that era just by sound. He was also an avid classic car enthusiast and could identify a car just by seeing a part of it in the trees or bushes as he drove by. Larry loved to plan and take road trips around the USA and explore Rt. 66.

He attended Cal Poly following a 3-year tour with the U.S. Army in eastern Germany on the Russian border during the Cold War. He lived and worked in San Luis Obispo for nearly 30 years.

When he finally married at age 54, it was to Vicki, a woman he had known from Burtonwood High School and found during his search for classmates. He founded the Burtonwood England Dependents High School alumni group, which resulted in reunions, his marriage to Vicki, the renewal of many schoolmates’ friendships, and the beginning of new ones.

Larry will be remembered and greatly missed by his family and friends. He will live in the hearts of many. May he rest in peace.
