I remember the snow would cover the buildings. It dark for many months. In the "summer" I would play in the woods. The black flies were horrendous. My mom had put bug spray all over but when I came home there was blood dripping from the corners of my eyes. We freaked out!
We lived in barracks next to a Canadian AF family as that was the housing available. We would visit the indigenous village named Happy Valley to shop for cool stuff. In winter there a phone number to call to find out if it was safe to step outside. It would get -70°. We had to plug our groovy station wagon into a plug outside. And we had a basement, which I thought was soon cool.
